So next the techs come in, I inform them of the same thing, they weigh him, he's malnourished (which anyone could have guessed for both of them because these are in fact abandoned stray cats).
As a final note, the kitten is recovered, and I'll be naming him Ghost based on your "professional" opinion that he was on his way out and there was no hope for him. Thanks for the medicine as that seems to be all the good you were for.
I only went to this vet because one of the kittens that was brought to my house by my husband had a respiratory infection that was so bad he couldn't eat.
Then in comes Giles, blazing, tells me the kitten's temperature is 92 degrees & he is already on his way out. She then proceeds to berate me & talk down to me in regards to feeding them every 2-3 hours (which I feel at this point I should mention I was doing, because this is not my first rodeo with an abandoned stray that was malnourished, my husband has a problem with picking these up at work), I shouldn't be keeping them in the AC, especially with them being sick (she assumes this on her own) & that there is basically no hope for this kitten.
I've used Dr. Giles for my three dogs for years now. I actually drive 30 minutes to get there, passing other vet's offices along the way. I've used a vet that is 5 minutes from my house on several cases of emergency on a Saturday, only because Peach Veterinary is closed on Saturday. I regret it EVERY time because I end up with a bill NO LESS than $350, usually more, and that is for an exam and x-ray only. I was told that my precious dog REALLY needed surgery to resolve the issue. So I scheduled the surgery for the following week, and was told it would cost at least $650.00. I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Giles, because she has given such great care before, and was told BEFORE any care was given, UNLIKE the other vet, that she recommended she take an x-ray to determine the severity, and it would cost $125.00 ONLY! After the exam.. Dr. Giles recommended a special food, ONLY to be given for 4 wk periods to see if the bladder tumor would shrink and if not she recommends surgery. I was told it would cost a TOTAL of $350! GUESS what..the temporary change to the special food worked and my precious baby never needed surgery! NOW.. PLEASE DO NOT GET ME WRONG..I am NOT ALL about a BARGAIN when it comes to my pets care..it is just an added BONUS with Dr. Giles. My experience is that she is a vet because she TRULY LOVES animals and NOT because she cares about the money! I have many other GREAT experiences but this ONE alone explains the rest as well!
Upon entering (which I was about 8 minutes late, I'm not perfect), the receptionist takes me back, asks the general questions, I inform her the last time this kitten most definitely consumed something instead of choking it back up because he was breathing out of his mouth was 6:30 AM (this is 2:50 PM), that two of them were brought to me with severe conjunctivitis, and that they were being fed by bottle with kitten formula because wet food was too much for either of them (one refused it, and the other was previously eating it until he couldn't breath and therefore had a hard time eating at all).
Love Dr. Giles and crew! She has treated thousands of our rescue animals coming from Ft. Benning Ga, Crawford County, Marion County, and parts of Taylor County. Without her huge support and heart for rescue we wouldn't be able to help so many homeless or otherwise displaced pets. Cats, dogs, farm animals, and injured wildlife have gotten their chance of survival because of her love for all creatures. ❤❤❤
Up until now I had been pleased with their service. They now (without any prior notice) have stopped honoring online prescriptions. Of course they want you to buy from them. When I contacted them about not being able to get my prescription from Pet Meds their attitude was more or less "too bad, so sad". I am now looking for a new vet.
No time for questions from the humans that bring the animals in I suppose.
This vet could not figure out why my dog wasn't eating or moving much & claimed she was just anemic. After giving her the prescribed vitamins, she still didn't change. What I later found out from a different vet is that my dog had Coccidia & it was almost too late to save her. Luckily, the vet was able to prescribe some medicine that should help.
The only thing I corrected her on was the AC issue, as these kittens have been situated on a screen porch the entire time they have been at my house SPECIFICALLY so they can be in the heat, other than that I was not willing to give her the verbal battle she was obviously pursuing. She then levels out briefly to tell me the best she can do is give me an antibiotic for him and some eye ointment for the conjunctivitis & storms out.
